In Memory of Steven Soren

Longtime Staten Island attorney Steven J. Soren, 54, passed away peacefully on Saturday morning, after more than two years of courageously living with multiple myeloma. Steven, an accomplished real estate and commercial litigation attorney, was a partner in the Soren Law Group of Staten Island, which he founded in 1998 with his beloved wife of 22 years, Karen Soren.
A longtime resident of Staten Island, Steven graduated high school in 1982 from Northfield Mount Hermon in Massachusetts. He then earned a bachelor’s degree in 1986 from Columbia College, where he was a member of Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity (Fiji); a master’s degree in 1988 in real estate development from Columbia University’s Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation, and a Juris Doctor degree in 1996 from California Western School of Law. Steven, who was a junior ranked tennis player in his youth, was an avid golfer and skier who vacationed frequently with his family in Vermont. As his sons, James and William, developed passions for jazz and baseball, the entire Soren family enjoyed these pursuits. Steven also served as a trustee of the Staten Island Children’s Museum and was a member of the Richmond County Country Club. In addition to his wife and sons, he is survived by his parents, Dr. Stanley Soren and Ruth Soren of Staten Island. He also will be deeply missed by his many cousins and dear friends.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 9, at Harmon Funeral Home, 571 Forest Ave., S.I., (718) 442-5056. On that same date, the family will sit shiva from 2 to 5 p.m. and from 7 to 10 p.m. at the Hilton Garden Inn, 1100 South Ave., S.I. Donations in Steven’s memory can be made to the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation (themmrf.org) or DKMS (We Delete Blood Cancer) (dkms.org/). Published in Staten Island Advance on Nov. 5, 2018
